2023 Singapore Premier League Champions, Albirex Niigata, kick off their Singapore Cup campaign with a 1-1 draw with DPMM Brunei FC this evening at Jalan Besar Stadium.

Despite the White Swans having the better chances for the first half, it was DPMM who took the lead.
Usually reliable Centre Back Shunsaku "Gozilla" Kishimoto lost the ball to Azwan Ali at the middle of the park at the 13th minute. Azwan raced through to face Hassan Sunny one on one and put the ball into the net successfully.
The White Swans continued to dominate play after the setback but were unable to find any clear cut chances in the face of DPMM's compact defence.
Head Coach Yoshinaga made a tactical substitution at half time by replacing Junki Yoshumura with Ryo Takahashi.

【#2 Ryo Takahashi】
The White Swans started to play with more penetration and finally got their reward at the 57th minute.
Attacking midfielder Seia Kunori was the recipient of some good play down the left flank. He swept the ball into the net to give the White Swans a deserved equaliser.

However, the White Swans could not find a second goal as they huffed and puffed in front of a big parked bus at the DPMM's defence.
The match eventually finished 1-1.

Albirex will next host Geylang at Jurong East Stadium this coming Friday, 29 Sep. Kickoff is 7.45pm
