【Match Report】Albirex Edges Tampines in 3-2 Thriller

Report2022/7/5
In an exciting match at Jurong East Stadium this evening, the White Swans beat Tampines Rovers 3-2 to reduce the Lion City Sailors' lead at the top of the table to 6 points with one game in hand.

Kodai Tanaka continued his hot streak with his 14th goal of the season when his head went into the net in the 14th minute.

Although Albirex had a few more chances in the first half, they could not make their dominance count and the first half ended 1-nil to the White Swan's favour.

The White Swans continued to dominate at the start of the second half. They finally get the second goal as Ilhan Fandi broke the offside trap with a fine run and scooped the ball past Tampines keeper Syazwan Buhari.

However, 1 minute later, Tampines top scorer Boris Kopitovic pulled one back when his quick shot squirmed past Koga's reach..

The White Swans did not panic and 7 minutes later, captain Jun Kobayashi headed the ball into the net from a Masaya Idetsu's corner. The White Swans stretched the lead again to 3-1.

Both teams traded goal scoring chances but it was Tampines who pulled one back as Kopitovic scored from the penalty spot after a handball from an Albirex defender in the 85th minute.

The last 5 minutes and additional time was tense for the Albirex supporters but the team remained calm on the pitch to see out the game.

The next game will come quickly for Albirex as they will meet Tanjong Pagar Utd in the start of the 3rd round of matches this Friday, 8 July at Jurong East Stadium. Kickoff is 7.45pm.
